A Little History on Modofly

We started off using Moleskines and a lasercutter, etching art into the covers. They were pretty cool books. Then we found out that the Moleskines had PVC in the covers. This was alarming!! PVC when burned gives off many extremely dangerous chemicals, and also was working to corrode our laser cutter because the hydrochloric acid being produced as well.

Well this was no good. We couldn’t just keep burning and create a potential health hazard for ourselves, and we certainly didn’t want our machine destroyed! Also, we weren’t interested in continuing with using PVC which is not a great chemical for the environment as well. So we decided to do something to address these issues.

Our solution was something that we are much happier with, and will be working to continually make better.

Information On Our Books

This is our first round of our books that we designed, and are being made here in the US. They are 8″x5″ and the covers are made with a waterproof fabric that can be printed on front to back. The tight weave of the material combined with the print gives the cover appearance that is similar to a canvas. This unique material gives a richness in appearance and touch to the books.

The paper in our sketchbooks (coming soon) is a recycled newsprint in a beautiful off-white tone made in mills here in the states and powered by wind. The ruled notebooks are made with a recycled content paper as well in an off-white tone.

These books cost more than the books we used before, but we think that this is a better book, and a better way to make the books. Your support of this company will help us to continue to make better products, and will allow us to develop even more products.

If you have comments about how you would like to see the books improved, general suggestions, or just thanks, please email us at info@modofly.net and let us know!

Why aren’t my books here like yesterday

We are a print on demand company. That means that we make your book after you order. Why do we do this? This allows us to have the wide range of art that we have. If we had to make several hundred books of each book, we would end up offering five books not a couple hundred.

Can I make my own books?

Yes. Please read the custom tab on the navigation bar.

Do colors translate 100% from what I see on my screen, or what my printer prints?

Just like unicorns and leprechauns don’t exist, colors never 100% translate like you want them to. They are pretty darn good, but if you are picky on your colors, you probably want to get a proof from us. Proofs are not free.

Do you guys have a newsletter?

Yes. Sign up at the bottom of page to be kept up to date on what is going on at Modofly.

Why does your front page look TERRIBLE in my browser?

Our guess is that you are using IE 6 or something else horrible like that ;)

For some reason that I can’t fix currently, IE 6 does not play well with our front page. We encourage you to use this as an opportunity to upgrade your IE or even better, switch to Firefox, Google Chrome, or Safari.
